Our
History

Operation Military Parents was founded in March 2004
by Allen & Susan Beckner of Roanoke, Va.

Allen & Susan had been wanting to do something to
help the troops that have been serving in Iraq and
Afghanistan since the war started, but was not sure the
right way to go about it. Since they had helped during
Desert Storm they knew they could not settle idle by
without helping.

Then they got the call. Their son DeWayne was going
to be deployed to Iraq which was a blow to them as
parents, but they knew in their hearts he was doing
what he wanted to do and that was to serve his
country. After searching for a support group for
parents, there were none, to help them to deal with the
pain and worry that comes with being parents of a
deployed soldier, and with the Red Cross out of Iraq
they knew they had to do something.

After talking with some friends in the Congressional
arena they knew they had to start OMP to help not only
themselves, but other parents and most important of
all the brave Heroes that are serving our great nation.
So after deciding to take on this endeavor and with
some help from some of their close friends they have
been able to help almost 10,000 troops and countless
parents and are looking for more soldiers and parents
to help all the time.

For DeWayne, after serving one tour, The Beckners are
facing another deployment but this time they have
people that can help them through it. When asked if
they will keep going with OMP after the war. Susan
&Allen answered with a resounding YES! We want to
build OMP and let the legacy live on.
